This system is a vertical diverter. The vertical diverter is a challenging control issue in that the diverter can only move so as not to pinch the product on the moving conveyor. Flipping the conveyor at the wrong time will destroy the product. Since the photo-eye sees the INCOMING product, the system has to track the product on the moving belt to make sure that the product will not get caught as the conveyor moves up or down.
